Spring has arrived, which means it’s time to make Elmwood bloom again!
Elmwood Blooms! was founded by lifelong Elmwood resident and businessman Charles Hilborn, who had a dream to beautify the Elmwood area of West Hartford with floral planters along New Britain Avenue. For over a decade, Charlie has rallied support from merchants and the community. Again, this year, KNOX will manage the program, working closely with Charlie, and Jason Carl from KNOX will oversee planter maintenance. The goal is for Elmwood to continue with the most planters in West Hartford, showcasing its community pride.
Whether you live in Elmwood or are a “Friend of Elmwood,” your donation can help purchase floral planters that will enhance Elmwood’s beauty. Contribute today and join local businesses in making our neighborhood shine, with planters lining New Britain Avenue.

This year, you can donate directly online (click here) or you can mail checks by May 12, 2026, payable to KNOX Inc., Attention: Elmwood Blooms! to Jason Carl, Director of Landscape Operations, KNOX, Inc., 75 Laurel Street, Hartford, CT 06106.
Over the last several years, nearly 100 residents and Friends of Elmwood have contributed between $25 and $250 to help purchase planters. Many Elmwood merchants purchase one or more planters each year.
This call to action invites the community to make 2026 the best year yet for planters by joining local merchants in beautifying Elmwood! “If you are able, please consider participating – a donation of any amount helps us add another planter. Let’s show West Hartford what Elmwood pride looks like!” Charlie encouraged. “Elmwood needs your support. It would be wonderful if you take a moment now to get involved.”
For questions, contact Charlie Hilborn at [email protected] or Jason Carl at [email protected].
