Five Hall Athletes Commit To Playing College Athletics

The five Hall High School seniors confirmed their commitments at the West Hartford school on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015.

Four soccer players and a football player, all members of the Hall High School Class of 2015, formalized their intent to continue their sports careers at the collegiate level during a ceremony with their families, friends, and coaches Tuesday afternoon.

Erin O’Brien and Jack Monnes both signed National Letters of Intent at the ceremony.

O’Brien, who co-captained the Hall girls soccer team during the 2014 season, also plays basketball for Hall and formerly was a member of the lacrosse team. She will attend Division II Stonehill college. Her sister, Claire O’Brien, Hall ’13, also plays soccer for Stonehill.

Monnes, a two-year co-captain of the Hall boys soccer team also signed a National Letter of Intent and will play soccer for Division I Marist College. “A lot of schools were after him,” West Hartford Athletic Director Betty Remigino-Knapp said during the ceremony, highlighting Monnes’ All Conference, All State, All New England, and All American accomplishments this past season.

Sydney Gellerman will continue her socccer career at Division III Skidmore College. In addition to soccer, Gellerman has participated in indoor track and lacrosse at Hall.

Chris Murphy, who co-captained the Hall boys soccer team this year, will play soccer for Division III Ithaca College next fall. He was named All Conference this past season.

Rob Parra, the only non-soccer player from Hall to formalize his commitment to collegiate athletics on Tuesday, will play football for Division III NESCAC Trinity College. Parra was one of the captain’s of Hall’s football team last fall, and was named All Conference and All State. “He was involved in other sports, but he truly loved football,” Remigino-Knapp said.
