Police have taken an Enfield man into custody after he hit several residential buildings on Farmington Avenue in West Hartford with a flatbed truck early Tuesday morning, causing structural damage to at least one of them. He faces multiple charges, including operating under the influence.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Adam Puzon, 40, of Enfield.

Police first learned of the incident when they received a call from Hartford Police alerting them that a truck had struck a fire hydrant and two utility poles on New Park Avenue and had fled the scene.

According to West Hartford Police, at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday a call came in from a resident of 755 Farmington Ave. reporting that a truck “was causing extensive damage to the building there.” Police suspect that Puzon pulled into the driveway of the apartment building to hide.

As he attempted to flee, Puzon then backed into the wall of 755 Farmington Ave., causing structural damage. He also hit the building next door at 749 Farmington Ave., another building in the same lot, and a parked 2009 Honda Accord, police said. Damage also extended to the interior of an apartment at 755 Farmington Ave.

According to police, an AMR paramedic then saw the suspect truck being driven south on Arnoldale Road and alerted West Hartford officers who spotted the truck, which had a missing front right tire and extensive front end damage heading west on Park Road.

Police followed the truck, a 2008 Hino flatbed, which headed west on Park Road and turned north onto Trout Brook Drive before finally stopping in the north driveway of Kingswood Oxford School on Trout Brook Drive. According to police, Puzon was arrested at the scene without further incident.

“Thankfully and miraculously there were no injuries,” said West Hartford Police Capt. Jeff Rose. “Puzon’s conduct was extremely reckless. Puzon also drove through two solid red lights,” Rose said.

The truck is owned by Advanced Scaffold Services, located at 620 Oakwood Ave., West Hartford, and according to police, Puzon is an employee of the company and had permission to drive the flatbed.

Puzon has been charged with DWI, two counts of failure to obey a control signal, two counts of failure to maintain lane, failure to drive right, six counts of evading responsibility, reckless driving, failure to yield to emergency vehicles, four counts of first-degree criminal mischief, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief.

He is being held on $50,000 bond.
