Hall faced off against Simsbury on Wednesday night in an intense and hard-fought volleyball matchup that came down to the final points of the fifth set. Although Hall ultimately fell short, the team showed resilience and determination after battling back from an early deficit to force a deciding set.
The match began with two closely contested sets that could have gone either way. Hall struggled to fully settle into a rhythm early on, but the team remained competitive throughout both sets. The opening set was especially tight, with both teams trading points late before Simsbury escaped with a narrow 26-24 win. The second set followed a similar pattern, as Hall continued to battle through long rallies and momentum swings, but Simsbury once again edged out a close 25-23 victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Despite the slow start, Hall had several standout performances that kept the team within striking distance. Ian Waddington, Jeremiah Ismael, Tobias Suplita, Colin McKenzie, Marco Mendoza Barcelona, and Daniel Jopeck all delivered important kills throughout the opening sets, helping Hall stay competitive offensively.
At the net, McKenzie, Waddington, and Mendoza Barcelona contributed key blocks that disrupted Simsbury’s attack and energized the team. Hall also found success from the service line, where Joshua Ng, Ankit Chochangi, and Waddington each recorded aces during critical moments.

After the second set, Hall began to find its rhythm and played with renewed energy and confidence. The team’s communication improved, the defense became more consistent, and Hall started converting key opportunities offensively. Waddington continued to make an impact at the net with strong blocking, while Jopeck and Mendoza Barcelona added important aces that helped swing momentum in Hall’s favor.
Offensively, Jopeck, Mendoza Barcelona, and Suplita led the charge with several timely kills that kept Simsbury on the defensive. Hall also benefited from a handful of Simsbury errors, which allowed the team to build momentum and extend scoring runs. The improved play on both sides of the ball paid off in the third set, as Hall controlled much of the action and earned a 25-19 victory to keep the match alive.

Hall carried that momentum directly into the fourth set. The team played with confidence and intensity, continuing to pressure Simsbury with aggressive serving and strong attacking play. Once again, Hall’s offense came through in key moments, while the defense held steady during long rallies. The balanced effort helped Hall secure another 25-19 win, evening the match at two sets apiece and forcing a decisive fifth set.
The final set was a back-and-forth battle that showcased the determination of both teams. Neither side was able to create much separation as the score remained close throughout. Hall fought until the very end, responding to several Simsbury runs and keeping the pressure on during crucial points. However, Simsbury (8-4) ultimately managed to pull ahead in the closing moments and escaped with a narrow 16-14 victory in the fifth set.
