Hall boys varsity soccer faced off against Bloomfield High School Thursday night on the Conard turf, and scored an incredible 11-1 win.
The game began with a kickoff at 6:30 p.m. with Bloomfield having possession first. However, they struggled to maintain it against Hall’s strong interceptions and fast-paced gameplay. Throughout the majority of the game, the ball remained in the middle of Hall’s end of the field, and that made it difficult for Bloomfield to gain a shot at the offensive.
After Hall’s much closer win against Berlin on Sept. 24, head coach Zeke Seguro noted he wished the team would be more decisive and dynamic in the final third of the field. Thursday night he said, “We still have a lot of work to do. The last couple days that’s all we’ve worked on.”

When asked about a highlight of the game, Seguro said, “We had an opportunity to play everyone today, so I got to see some kids that I haven’t played, that I hadn’t had an opportunity to.”
All the hard work seems to have paid off, as Hall had goals from seven separate players: Jeremi Palma Mena (#7), Grady Doyle (#5), Levi Schleif (#23), Harrison Williams (#30), Amar Cecunjanin (#25) , two goals by Tommy Hennessy (#27), and a hat trick by Aiden Winiarski (#9). There was also an own goal – a shot by Cecunjanin that was headed wide before being deflected into the goal off the knee of a Bloomfield defender, Seguro said.
By the second half, Bloomfield was frantic to make it onto the scoreboard. Many players from both Hall and Bloomfield were in a cluster fighting for the ball, and Bloomfield was able to kick it just past Hall’s goalie Graham Rivers and into the net.
Coach Seguro felt the success of Hall’s team was due to a combined effort from the offense and defense, because “they have to play on both sides of the ball to try to get a result.” However, he believes the team still needs to refine their work in the final third of the field, by being “a little more clinical,” and to “learn how to play off of one another a little bit better.”
Hall (3-3-2) will play Bristol Eastern at Bristol Eastern High School on Monday, Oct. 5 and will host Farmington at Conard on Wednesday. Hall is scheduled to be back on their home turf hosting Avon on Friday afternoon.
