Dan Zittoun, principal of William H. Hall High School, announced the 22 students who have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. These recipients are: Avery Allen, Joshua Azia, Omar Bhatti, Corinne Daly, Bhajan Deshpande, Katelynn Emerson, Fordham Gillespie, Adam Godel, Andrew Greden, Jacob Herzog, Lucy Homer, Tristan Hunt, Cornelia Mozingo, Maya Patt, Artemis Raftopoulos, Eliana Simmons, Benjamin Spaeth, Caitlin Striff-Cave, Ethan Striff-Cave, Vincent Sullivan, Meghan Tiernan, and Jennifer Zhao.

Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scores of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Godel, Greden, E. Striff-Cave, and Zhao have also been named National Merit Semifinalists.  These students will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards that will be offered next spring, and will be candidates for other scholarships, as well.

Representing less than 1% of the country’s high school seniors, Semifinalists are the state’s highest-scoring students on the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
