Please note that any election-related letter to the editor must be submitted by Sunday, Nov. 1 in order to be included in the newsletter on Monday, Nov. 2, which is the last one before election day. Dear West Hartford residents,

I applaud Tiffani McGinnis and Philip Tummescheit for their Candidate Debate – State Representative – 18th District, hosted by the League of Women Voters and available on WHCi’s YouTube channel. Watch before you vote. We deserve to know what we’re signing up for.

“But I already know who I’m voting for.” Do you? Voting strictly along party lines is like shopping on Amazon: convenient until the competition disappears. Then we lose our choices – and our leverage. No competition, no accountability.

An election without a choice is not a healthy democracy. When we show up to vote, shouldn’t we always have a real choice?
