Dear Editor,
I’m writing to our fellow residents of the 19th House District to vote for Derek Slap on Tuesday, Nov. 8th.
I’ve known Derek for 25 years and one things that’s certain is that he was born to serve. When he was a young child his mother took him to political rallies and the seed was planted; he’s been dedicated to helping others his whole life.
He’s done it through volunteering and through his work. As a journalist he was most gratified when he was able to tell someone’s story who otherwise wouldn’t have a voice.
As a public servant, I saw him work tirelessly with democrats and republicans to find solutions to tough problems. For example, I can remember when he worked on the Smart Start program with Senator Beth Bye, to help bring quality pre-k education to all children.
I’ve also seen him excel at the UCONN Foundation, helping to raise scholarship money for UCONN students.
He’s always been driven by helping others. As I mentioned, I’ve known him for a long time – since we were 17 when he was my high school sweetheart. He not only has my vote, he has my heart. We’ve been married 13 years and have 3 children. He wants our children – and yours – to go to great schools, find work here when they graduate and be able to retire here. I know that’s a big reason why he’s running for state representative.
Derek has the work ethic, values and compassion to be a great advocate for all families. I hope you’ll join me in supporting him on Election Day.
