Dear West Hartford BOE,

It has come to my attention that the policy committee on the West Hartford Board of Education has elected to effectively eliminate the comment portion of BOE meetings down to once a month. This follows a stretch of dubious behavior that has run counter to the directives of CABE.

Instead of holding to the bedrock principles of democracy, the board has once again decided to trample on the First Amendment by restricting the freedom of concerned citizens to express themselves on controversial issues.

It is disgraceful that an organization that commits itself to upholding fundamental education principles turns its back on the very ideals it proclaims to protect. Decisions like these have led to the degradation of a town that my parents were proud to call home.

It should also be made clear that a large contingency of the town does not agree with this grave overstep that you have taken. Though, it seems you may understand this, as those who are afraid of the truth are the ones that are the first to censor the masses.

Sincerely,
Anthony Mancini
West Hartford
