Lucille Edstrom recently had her 104th birthday and she came to the West Hartford Senior Center in Bishops Corner to celebrate with her friends and former colleagues.
Lucille was an active member of the West Hartford Senior Center in Bishops Corner; she soon became a volunteer too. Ned Skinnon, the former Senior Center director, was her supervisor. She volunteered for 20 years; she helped to set up for events and enjoyed working in the kitchen.
According to her daughter, Margaret Bouchard, Lucille was a concert pianist as a teenager and she has always loved to travel. In fact, when she was just 99 years old, she went to Italy with her dear friend.
She currently enjoys dancing and bingo and lives with her daughter in Avon. Current Senior Center Director, Gina Marino, says that “Lucille is an inspiration to us. We were so happy to celebrate this birthday with her. We all want to be just like her when we retire!”
Lucille resided in West Hartford since 1943; she moved to California for a little more than a year in the early 1950s and taught ceramics. In fact, when she moved back to West Hartford, she offered ceramic classes out of her home. She was a seamstress too and helped her mother. Lucille worked for the State of Connecticut, Department of Income Maintenance for about 25 years before retiring.
