West Hartford Police said an adult operator of a motorcycle was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries sustained after a collision with a car on Monday afternoon.

The driver of the car was also injured, police said, and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Further information about the operators was not provided by police.

Police said the collision occurred at approximately 1:53 p.m. Monday in the vicinity of 433 South Main Street, which is just south of the I-84 entrance and exit ramps.

Police closed South Main Street to vehicular as well as pedestrian traffic between New Britain Avenue and Beechwood Road for several hours while emergency responders were on the scene and while the investigation was underway. Traffic exiting I-84 in from the east and west was also detoured to head northbound on South Main Street.

Police said all roadways reopened at approximately 6 p.m., but the incident remains under active investigation by the West Hartford Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team.
