New Data Privacy Protections Lead New Laws Taking Effect Tuesday

Other laws that take effect on Oct. 1 involve police body cameras, elder care, and PFAS.

A raft of changes to how Connecticut law protects sensitive medical information, minors from online threats, and misuse of social media lead a group of dozens of new laws that take effect Oct. 1.

An Act Concerning Online Privacy, Data and Safety Protections makes several changes to data privacy laws and includes provisions to protect children from the most pernicious effects of social media. Under the new law, businesses and individuals are prohibited from selling consumer health data without consumer consent, or using “geofencing” to gather consumer health data near mental health or reproductive or sexual health facilities.
