With the recent graduation of the Class of 2022, the Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) celebrated its 10 year anniversary.
The 25-week rigorous program, offered through the Bridge Family Center, combines advocacy, leadership and citizenship skills into a curriculum to foster the best interests of children. Participants learn how to become involved in the democratic process and take part in policy development or when a problem arises in the community.
More than 200 West Hartford residents have participated in PLTI since its inception in 2012 and these alumni remain passionate about their work and continue to impact our community. State Rep. Tammy Exum is a PLTI graduate and coordinated the program for four years. Other alumni have been elected to the West Hartford Town Council, the West Hartford Board of Education, and are active participants in West Hartford’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
PLTI is a program of the Connecticut Commission on Women, Children, and Seniors. It is sponsored by the Bridge Family Center with funding support from the State Education Resource Center and the Liberty Bank Foundation.
