Nominations for grand marshal of West Hartford’s Park Road Parade will be accepted through Aug. 15.

The Park Road Association is asking the West Hartford community to help the select a grand marshal for this year’s Park Road Parade, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 5.

“For the first time in the parade’s history, we are opening up the selection process to the community on who will lead the 21st Annual Park Road Parade,” said Tracy Flater, co-chair, Park Road Association, and co-founder of Playhouse on Park.

“Unlike the usual grand marshal criteria of being a prominent, highly visible individual, we want to honor West Hartford’s unsung heroes,” said John Paindiris, co-chair, Park Road Association, and owner of Effie’s Restaurant.

Unsung heroes are community members who serve from behind the scenes.

“They might be a driving force helping our public servants, civic organizations, or someone who just generally gets things done for our town,” said Tony Landino, parade coordinator.

Please explain how the person you are nominating embodies these qualities. The Park Road Parade Committee will vote on a winner and one alternate to serve as this year’s grand marshal.

Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 15. Please follow this link to make a nomination: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/R8S8NPH.
