The weather in Connecticut may be having a tough time deciding what season we’re in, but the tulips and flowering trees certainly know its springtime.

Outside of Elizabeth Park, one of the most stunning displays of tulips in town is on Arundel Avenue. Resident Peter Schaller, who provides gardening tips and seasonal inspiration on his Instagram page (@peterhschaller) said there are more than 2,000 tulips blooming in his yard!

Driving down Boulevard, between South Main Street and Ridgewood Road, it’s hard to miss the sea of white blossoms. While the Bradford Pear trees are invasive, and the tops of the trees were pruned rather severely two years ago to keep them off the power lines, they certainly look pretty at this time of year.

The crocuses and forsythia that gave us the first signs of the earth reawakening are long gone, and many of the daffodil displays are well past their peak. The hyacinths have faded, and the blossoms have fallen from some of the early-blooming magnolias. About 10 days ago, the tree pictured below was in full, sweetly-scented bloom.

There’s a magnolia tree in my neighborhood that’s one of the early spring bloomers, and it smells amazing. Photo credit: Ronni Newton
