Playhouse on Park in West Hartford Will Present ‘Steel Magnolias’

‘Steel Magnolias,’ is the next show in Playhouse on Park’s Mainstage Series, and will run from Jan. 10-28, 2018.

The next show is Playhouse on Park’s Mainstage Series is Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias, running from Jan. 10-28. Opening night is Friday, Jan. 12, with a complimentary wine and cheese reception at 7 p.m., followed by the show at 8 p.m.

The place: Truvy’s Beauty Parlor, in Chiquapin Parish, Louisiana.

The players: six women who are as delicate as magnolias and as strong as steel.

The story: an exploration of the lives, loves and losses of close friends, who harangue each other through the best of times and repair one another through the worst.

The intimate Playhouse stage is the ideal space for this hilarious and heartwarming play. Susan Haefner returns to direct Steel Magnolias and its all-star cast. Her credits include: Playhouse on Park: 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE (Director/Choreographer – CT Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Ensemble), THREE LITTLE PIGS (Director/Choreographer), and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (Director). Other Director/Choreographer credits: Weston Playhouse: SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK LIVE!, STUART LITTLE; Geva Theatre/SUNY Brockport: FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM. Castleton State College: YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU.  Susan is also a Broadway actor (STATE FAIR, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, 42nd STREET, BILLY ELLIOT 1st National Tour).

Starring in this production are: Dorothy Stanley (Playhouse on Park Debut! Broadway shows: 17 including SUGAR BABIES, ANNIE, 42nd STREET, and the revivals of FOLLIES, SHOW BOAT, SWEENEY TODD, LA CAGE…and GYPSY. Regional Credits: over 100) as Clairee; Peggy Cosgrave (Broadway: Born Yesterday with Madeline Kahn and Ed Asner, The Nerd, The Shadow Box, and Suddenly Last Summer Off Broadway: The Sandbox, directed by its author Edward Albee) as Ouiser; Susan Slotoroff (Playhouse on Park: UNNECESSARY FARCE, I HATE HAMLET, THE DINING ROOM; Shadowland Stages: MIRACLE ON SOUTH DIVISION STREET, MOON OVER BUFFALO) as Shelby; Jill Taylor Anthony (Past favorites: Adelaide GUYS & DOLLS, Agnes Gooch in MAME and Maria in A COMEDY OF TENORS) as Truvy; Jeannie Hines (Playhouse on Park debut!  Shaker Bridge Theatre, NH: Sylvia SYLVIA, Liz BOOK OF LIZ, Parish Players, VT: Ruth BLITHE SPIRIT) as M’Lynn; and Liza Couser (Playhouse on Park Debut! New London Barn Playhouse: GODSPELL, THE SECRET GARDEN, Northern Stage: Ensemble MAMMA MIA) as Anelle.

Previews for Steel Magnolias are Jan. 10 and 11. All preview seats are only $17.50. Each Sunday matinee features a talkback with the cast after the show. This show also offers a specially priced Tuesday matinee on Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. All seats for this performance are only $22.50 per person, reserved seating.

Individual tickets range from $30 to $40, all seats reserved. Seniors, students, and Let’s Go Arts member discounts are available.
