With West Hartford’s Rockledge Golf Club set for what may be its earliest ever opening day on Monday, March 2, 2020, local golfers have already started to dust off their clubs.

The Rockledge Men’s Club invites all interested town residents to join the group, which promotes competitive golf and camaraderie at Rockledge, which is the best-conditioned public course in the state.

Aided by the friendship and support of Rockledge’s longtime PGA Professional Rich Crowe, the Rockledge Men’s Club has something to offer every golfer. There are opportunities to play in a competitive, yet friendly, setting most weekends during the golf season, and every Tuesday and Friday morning. Highlights of the schedule include multiple two- and four-person team format events, Senior and Club Championships, Match Play Weekend, and the Club’s annual Member-Guest Tournament in September.

New members are immediately welcomed into the group, and the Men’s Club works actively to help them find playing partners and teams.

The Rockledge Men’s Club is also committed to promoting the growth of the game of golf in West Hartford. A new event this year – open to any interested resident – will be the West Hartford Amateur Open on Saturday, Aug. 29, which will have men’s and women’s divisions.

The Men’s Club also actively supports junior golf at Rockledge and Buena Vista, and will host the first ever Nine Hole Father/Child event at Buena Vista on Fathers’ Day, which will be open to all interested town residents.

The Rockledge Men’s Club is also deeply committed to giving back to the West Hartford community. Each year, the organization holds an annual fundraising tournament using the fun “Greenskeeper’s Revenge” format to benefit the Town that Cares Fund and the West Hartford Food Pantry. Members and the general public donated carloads of non-perishable food items during the week leading up to the event, along with donations totaling more than $1,400 this past year.

Over the years, the Men’s Club has raised more than $5,000, and has also donated hundreds of non-perishables over the last few years.

Until further notice, the golf course will be open on a first-come, first-serve basis starting on Monday, March 2, at 10 a.m. For more information about tee times, rates, and passes, contact the Golf Shop at 860-521-6284.
