The Rotary Club of West Hartford recently completed two of its annual service projects that benefit the community.

On May 20, the club purchased $10,000 worth of food at Costco and had a “Food Caravan” to Town Hall, where it filled the Food Pantry. The club wishes to extend special thanks to the Conard High School Interact students, the West Hartford Police Department, and its fellow Rotarians and friends that helped make the day a success.

Also, during May and June, the club also awarded scholarships to deserving students at Conard, Hall, American School for the Deaf, and AI Prince Tech for college expenses and/or professional equipment. Recipients are:

  • Konrad Milewicz (Conard)
  • Claire Nordquist (Hall)
  • Jack Abel Lavayen (American School for the Deaf)
  • Dominic Thompson, Jazzanae Jenson, and Yariel Quinones (AI Prince Tech)

Separately, the club has donated more than $30,000 to dozens of local, national and international charitable organizations over the past year, including:

  • Thanksgiving Dinner Drive (Food Pantry/Town That Cares)
  • Dictionary Project (a dictionary was presented to each of the 667 third graders in the West Hartford Public Schools)
  • Foundation for West Hartford Public Schools
  • Conard Safe Grad
  • Hall Safe Grad
  • Johnny’s Jog for Charity
  • West Hartford Girls’ Softball League
  • Noah Webster House America 250 Program
  • Seniors Job Bank
  • WHAASCO
  • Special Olympics West Hartford
  • ITN Transportation Network
  • Trinity Academy
  • House of Bread
  • South Park Inn
  • Open Hearth
  • CT Brain Tumor Alliance
  • Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
  • Chrysalis Center
  • American Parkinson’s Disease Association
  • Rotary Club of New Kingston Jamaica (hurricane relief)
  • The Israel Ride (peace initiative)

These projects and donations, and many others throughout the year that benefit the local community, are funded by the club’s fundraising events, including the Vines of March wine and food tasting event and its food tent at Celebrate! West Hartford.
