[Updated] West Hartford Police report that Albany Avenue/Route 44 has been reopened to traffic in both directions.

By Ronni Newton

West Hartford Police said shortly after 11:30 a.m. Monday that a tree that fell across Albany Avenue/Route 44 overnight, landing on power lines, has been cleared and the roadway has been reopened to traffic in both directions.

According to Eversource, power to all West Hartford customers has been restored. One customer in Avon remains without power, but it is not clear if that outage is related to the downed tree.

Original story

Route 44 is closed Monday morning on Avon Mountain due to a large tree that fell across the road, blocking all four lanes of the road.

The tree fell in the area of Renbrook School and Ferncliff Drive, but police said that access to Albany Avenue/Route 44 is closed on the West Hartford side at the intersection with Mountain Road.

According to police, the State Department of Transportation and Eversource are on the scene, but a timeframe for reopening the road has not been provided.

According to Eversource, there are 131 customers in West Hartford and seven in Avon that are without power.

Renbrook Summer Adventure tweeted Monday morning that the camp is closed for the day.
