The spring air is filled with excitement at Saint Brigid School (SBS) as they prepare to celebrate their 20th anniversary golf tournament!
This much anticipated milestone will take place on Friday, May 15, at Tunxis Plantation Golf Course in Farmington. In the history of Catholic schools in Hartford County, Saint Brigid School has one of the longest continuous running golf tournaments. Also, the tournament is one of SBS’s largest annual fundraisers.
To make this event an incredible success SBS needs your support. Saint Brigid is putting out a public call for all former chairpersons, golfers, and volunteers to join the committee and help organize this wondrous event! It is a great time for golfers and non-golfers to renew old acquaintances and make new friends as well.
Saint Brigid School alum, Kristina Carriera ’03, and 2015 tournament chairperson, enthusiastically stated, “The SBS community has been a part of my life for the past 20 years! It holds a sacred place in my heart. The best way to commemorate the golf tournament’s 20th anniversary is with the people who started it!”
Each year the tournament is a volunteer led event. The tournament is great fun. It is a day and evening filled with a variety of awards, raffles, a mouth-watering barbecue style luncheon, along with an evening steak and chicken dinner entrees; coupled with a scrumptious ice cream sundae dessert bar for everyone’s enjoyment.
Echoing Kristina’s comments, SBS Principal Shevon Hickey shared, “Our golf tournaments are successful because of our dedicated volunteers. Without question, they are the heart and soul of this event. After the success of last year’s tournament, we’re eagerly looking forward to celebrating the golf tournament’s 20th anniversary!”
“Our family loves the SBS golf tournaments! Regardless of the weather, it’s always a great day seeing old and new friends, enjoying fun competition and delicious food; all while raising funds for such a valuable cause – Saint Brigid School,” continued Mary Lou Kachnowski, golf committee member and past parent ‘07 and ’11.
It is said a great tournament has four things: great people, a great golf course, great food, and great music! Current SBS parent volunteer, David Froman remarked, “Well we have all four, so we look forward to seeing you there!”
