Students at Mileva Maric Montessori in West Hartford, fourth Grader Aishi Banerjee and third Grader Brian Dai are some of the ‘brightest in the world.’

Mileva Maric Montessori, a renowned institution for nurturing young minds, is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of two of its exceptional students: fourth-grader Aishi Banerjee and third-grader Brian Dai.

Aishi and Brian have been honored as two of the brightest students in the world by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth based upon their performance on the June ACT. CTY uses above- grade-level testing to identify advanced students from around the world and provide a clear picture of their academic abilities.

Each year, about 16,000 students from more than 75 countries join CTY. On average, less than 30% of students who join CTY qualify for either high or grand honors based on their test scores.

Aishi, a national tae-kwon-do competitor who has recently earned her black belt, says, “I want to learn because I want to discover new things about the universe. I want to be an astronaut and find out how different things behave in space. I also want to go to Mars and find out if humans can live there. I want to be a mathematician, scientist, and engineer, and I want to build space probes, satellites, and rockets. Last but not least, I want to be an author. I don’t want to limit myself. I’m going to keep learning forever, even after I achieve my life goals.”

Brian, a national chess competitor, says, “I love learning because I see the future in it. There is always something new to discover. When I learn something difficult, it feels like solving a puzzle, and that’s really exciting to me. I like asking questions and figuring out how things work. My favorite activities are playing chess, doing math, reading books, writing stories, playing piano, and doing sports like skiing, swimming, and flag football. I enjoy challenging myself and getting a little better every day. I hope that one day I can use what I learn to create new ideas, help other kids, and inspire people.”

Earlier this year, Brian received a special Certificate of Achievement for his performance on the AMC 8. This award is reserved for students in sixth grade or below who have achieved a minimum score of 15 on the annual AMC 8 math competition.

Both Aishi and Brian won numerous awards for accomplishments and competitions in math, computing, and humanities. They both were ranked as national finalists in the Math Kangaroo competition, they made the top 10% for MOEM’s elementary division, they were regional finalists in the IAC science, history, and geography bees, and took turns winning 1st and 2nd place in the Pascal, Gauss, and Beaver Computing Challenges which are administered by the CEMC at University of Waterloo.

“Aishi and Brian are joyful learners who bring their very best to school every day,” says Head Teacher Marissa Maric. “At recess, they are regular kids – they make forts, run around, and play games with their friends. But when we return to the classroom, they take their work seriously. The most profound part of my day with them is watching them help their friends to develop a similar love of learning.”
