The Hall High School boys’ basketball team defeated Bristol Eastern High School 40-27 to earn its first victory of the season at home in West Hartford on Wednesday night.

The Warriors allowed a season-low 27 points as they improved to 1-4 with the win. Offensively, James DeCrisantis paced Hall with 13 points, and Onyx Erazo – making his first appearance of the season – chipped in with 10.

“Guys are just buying in defensively to what we’re trying to do,” said Hall head coach Bryan Moretti. “It was a good win. I wish we could be better offensively … but 1-4 is better than 0-5, so [we’re] happy with a win.”

Scoring came in spurts for the Warriors, who scored as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter but were held to two in the second. Despite the offensive inconsistency, Hall never trailed in the contest.

Hall went on an 11-2 run in the first five minutes of the game, but Bristol Eastern fought back to narrow the margin to 15-13 at halftime.

The Warriors managed to pull away from the Lancers, building leads of 10 and 14 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, while stymying Bristol Eastern by forcing numerous turnovers throughout the game.

DeCrisantis notched many of his points in the fourth quarter, as he went 6-for-6 from the free throw line to close out the game.

As a team, Hall went 10-for-11 on foul shots, shooting 91 percent. Bristol Eastern made four of its nine free throw attempts for a 44 percent mark.

The Warriors travel to Southington next to take on the Blue Knights on Friday at 6:45 p.m.
