The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in West Hartford, CT,. announced a partnership with Hartford Promise, an organization devoted to the financial and academic support of Hartford’s college-bound students.
Hartford Promise’s integrated model provides Hartford students the financial resources, support services, and relationships that lead to college success. Hartford Promise will award scholarships of up to $20,000 to eligible Hartford students attending an accredited four-year college or university, and up to $5,000 to those attending two-year institutions.
The University of Saint Joseph will supplement the program by offering students a housing scholarship. The scholarship will cover the full cost of on-campus housing for four years, provided students retain their Hartford Promise eligibility.
USJ President Rhona Free said, “We are honored to partner with Hartford Promise and enable students’ success. Studies show that students who live on campus have greater academic success, are involved in more co-curricular activities, have a greater likelihood of graduating, and are more apt to do so within four years.”
“On-campus housing is often a cost students and families can not cover,” said Richard Sugarman, president of Hartford Promise. “We greatly appreciate the University’s willingness to bridge this gap which is so critical to student success.”
The University will welcome Hartford Promise students in the fall 2016 semester.
