A variety of special events are planned over the next few weeks for West Hartford’s Blue Back Farmers’ Market.

Dogs are always welcome at the Blue Back Farmers’ Market at West Hartford Town Hall, but their presence will be especially welcome on Sunday, Aug. 28 for a “Dog Days of Summer” event.

Sunday’s activities will include a demonstration by the FIDELCO Guide Dog Foundation – the organization which trains dogs to assist the visually impaired.

In addition, specialty vendor JJ Pet Goods will be at the market, offering dog treats for sale.

Blue Back Farmers’ Market co-founder and co-manager Scott Franklin noted that the dog-related events will be held on the grass by the flagpoles, to keep the pups’ paws nice and cool.

The Blue Back Farmers’ Market, which launched June 19, is held on Sundays from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the parking lot of West Hartford Town Hall, and will continue through Oct. 23.

In addition, coming up on Oct. 9, New York Times best-selling author Terry Walters will be a special guest at the market, co-founder and co-manager Mary Collins said. She’s hoping to involve the library and other organizations with that event.

Oct. 16 will feature a special veterans program with Ron Farina, who recently authored two books, one about caretakers of wounded warriors and the other on women wounded warriors. There will also be a Victory Garden program by West Hartford resident Blythe Kaufman, Collins said.

Information about other upcoming special events, vendors, and entertainment can be found on the PDF below, and details are also available on the market’s website.
