The Town of West Hartford is looking for feedback regarding its Electric Vehicle Servicing Equipment Strategy.

Submitted

In order to achieve the transportation goals, set in the Town of West Hartford’s 2020 Energy Plan, it has recognized the need to develop a long-term strategic plan for the installation, operation, and maintenance of Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) – particularly charging stations – that ensures equitable access and usability, economic viability, and integration with town infrastructure.

The EVSE Strategy will guide the Town from planning and site identification through design, product/vendor identification, and implementation and administration.

The Town of West Hartford has recognized the need to be on the leading edge of this initiative with its 2020 Energy Plan that aspires to be using 100% clean energy by 2050 and has begun to work toward that goal with a variety of initiatives, including the installation of five EV charging stations, as well as the purchase of three hybrid vehicles and a fully electric transit van.

Concurrent with the town beginning these initiatives, residents of West Hartford have increased adoption of EVs as well. According to data from the Connecticut Department of Transportation, there were approximately 753 EVs registered to West Hartford residents through July 2022, and that number is anticipated to increase by a factor of four by 2025. However, it is not just residents – area employers may also be looking to electrify their fleets to take advantage of tax rebates, and the substantial number of visitors from the region will also be looking for EV charging stations when they come to downtown for lunch, shopping, dining, church or entertainment.

The town recognizes that the future of transportation is here. Help us make West Hartford a better and more sustainable place.
