The Monastery Gallery of Art at Holy Family Retreat Center will host a reception for its current exhibit, “Threads and Fabrics: Textile Diversity,” on Friday, Oct. 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

This exhibit, the gallery’s first devoted entirely to textiles, features a variety of quilted, cross-stitched, woven, and embroidered pieces. A diverse group of artists participated, and many will be on hand at the reception.

Also in attendance will be nationally acclaimed quiltmaker Ed Johnetta Miller, whose work has been displayed in many important museums and corporate and private collections. Miller will speak on her involvement with the Hartford North End Senior Quilters, a number of whom contributed work to the Monastery Gallery’s current exhibit.

The Monastery Gallery of Art is located on the historic grounds of Holy Family Retreat Center, 303 Tunxis Road in West Hartford. There is no charge to attend the reception and no need to register. Visitors may stop by the Gallery any time between 5:30 and 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The “Threads and Fabrics” exhibit runs through Jan. 8, 2023. The Monastery Gallery of Art is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
