September is National Preparedness Month, making it the perfect time to get your family ready for any emergency that may affect your home or community. Join the Town of West Hartford for the annual Community Preparedness Day on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Town Hall parking lot.

The event will feature preparedness information, free giveaways, flu shots, a HAM radio demonstration, and a Touch-A-Truck opportunity. Residents can also register for the Town’s Emergency Notifications and learn about CERT.

Participating agencies include the Office of Emergency Management, Fire Department, Police Department, Public Works, West Hartford-Bloomfield Health Department, West Hartford Animal Control, West Hartford Prevention Partnership, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District will offer flu shots for individuals ages 4 and older, including pediatric and high-dose vaccines for those 65 and older. Free Narcan kits will also be available.

The American Red Cross will share home safety information on preventing and preparing for disasters, including home fire safety and storm preparedness, as well as information about the Red Cross Emergency! App. Stop by with the kids to pick up a Red Cross activity book.

Attendees can also learn more about West Hartford’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and register for the fall six-week basic training class, which begins Saturday, Oct. 3. The training is free, and registration is required. Visit https://www.westhartfordct.gov/cert.
