Individuals seeking jobs as well as employers looking for staff are invited to attend a community job and resource fair scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the West Hartford Town Hall Auditorium.
The event is being hosted by both the Town of West Hartford and West Hartford Chamber of Commerce.
COVID-19 has greatly impacted employment in a wide range of sectors over the past 18 months, leading to job losses for residents as well as hiring challenges for local businesses. The purpose of this free event is to assist both job seekers and employers in sharing information about open positions and opportunities.
There is no charge for anyone to attend or participated, and no need for attendees to pre-register. Because space is limited, employers and career resource organizations must register in advance.
As of last Thursday, West Hartford Economic Development Coordinator Kristen Gorski said about 40 businesses had already registered to participate in the event. Remaining spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
“Once again, the Town of West Hartford and West Hartford Chamber of Commerce are stepping up to help those looking for employment and business in need of new employees,” Mayor Shari Cantor said in a statement. “I encourage all job seekers and businesses looking to hire to take advantage of this unique opportunity to strengthen our community’s workforce and vitality as we combat the pandemic.”
“The Town of West Hartford is eager to help our community’s residents and business owners who have been hit hardest by COVID-19 and we are confident the Community Job & Resource Fair will help serve that purpose,” Gorski said. “Especially now that some benefits are expiring, the fair will help match individuals looking for work with businesses eager for new employees.”
West Hartford Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Chris Conway said he is expecting the event to be well-attended.
“The Chamber is here to help local businesses and we are committed to doing whatever we can to help them meet the hiring challenges they are currently facing,”Conway said. “With the end of summer and kids back in school we’re expecting a robust crowd of job seekers and employers looking to hire.”
