The Division II championship will be determined on Friday evening.

Two of the strongest high school rugby teams in the state will clash on Friday evening to decide the Division II league championship.

West Hartford comes into Friday night’s contest fresh off a convincing 60-14 win last week over the Shoreline Spartans which brought the Blackhearts to 5-0 for the season. The squad has been challenged at various times throughout the season, but has always found a way to make mid-game adjustments to preserve their perfect record. Including the 2020 season that was cancelled due to COVID, the team has not lost a match since 2019.

The Midstate Rams have looked equally as strong this year and travel to West Hartford with a perfect 4-0 record.

West Hartford coach Shawn Brennan is cautiously optimistic going into Friday’s match. “This game is huge for us, especially the seniors, we are expecting a big crowd and we don’t want to disappoint our friends and families,” he said. “It is always a close battle when we play Midstate, but home field advantage could make all of the difference in this one.”

Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at Sterling Field on Flatbush Avenue. There is no charge for admission.
