Veteran Resource Fair to be Held in West Hartford

The West Hartford Commission on Veterans Affairs will host a Veterans Resource Fair on May 11.

The West Hartford Commission on Veterans Affairs is excited to announce that a Veterans Resource Fair will be held on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Town Hall Auditorium for West Hartford veterans and their families. The event is free.
A diverse group of representatives from various agencies and town offices will provide valuable resources and information. They include:
- U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) – Healthcare information (annual exams, prescription drugs, hearing aids), disability benefits (Agent Orange, hearing impairment, PTSD), educational benefits (GI Bill, tuition assistance), and the PACT Act.
- State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs – Programs and benefits unique to veterans including skilled nursing care, residential and family housing, cemetery and memorial services, vocational training, educational tuition waivers, addiction recovery, income assistance, and more.
- West Hartford Town Assessor, Town Clerk, and Social Worker – Veterans Tax Relief Programs, tuition waiver program, burial benefits at Fairview Cemetery, employment services, counseling services, and many other services available to veterans living in West Hartford.
- American Legion and VFW – Support programs, community activities and events, youth mentorship programs, and many other topics.
- There will also be representatives from Connecticut State University System, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, AARP, YMCA, and the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center.
Commission Chair COL Rolf Knoll (US Army, Ret.) stated, “We are looking forward to holding our first ever resource fair for our veterans. We greatly appreciate their service to our nation and want to make sure that they are aware of the many important programs and services available to them and their family members. We are hoping for a great turnout from our veterans community at this event.”
While not required, the Commission recommends that Veterans bring their discharge papers or DD 214 to the event if they wish to enroll in various programs and services the day of the event.
