The West Hartford Board of Education met in executive session Tuesday night, and after returning to the public meeting, Chair Lorna Thomas-Farquharson announced that Dr. Andrew Morrow has been appointed interim superintendent of West Hartford Public Schools effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023, or until a new superintendent is appointed..
Morrow, who has been the assistant superintendent of Administration for West Hartford Public Schools since 2014, will take over for Superintendent Tom Moore, who announced in late February that he will depart at the end of the academic year and will become superintendent of the Niles Township High School District 219 in Skokie, IL. Morrow, who joined the district in 2009 as principal of Bristow Middle School, became assistant superintendent when Moore became superintendent on July 1, 2014.
“I am honored to be asked to serve as the interim superintendent of schools and appreciate the opportunity to help lead our district and Board of Education through this search and transition period,” Morrow said following the announcement. “As a West Hartford parent and school leader for the past 13 years, I’ve seen firsthand the amazing work of all our dedicated teachers and staff. We still have a lot of work ahead of us as we continue to emerge from the pandemic, but I am excited about the future and our kids. I have also shared with the Board that while I appreciate their trust and remain committed to WHPS, I will not be applying for the permanent superintendent of school position in the upcoming search process.”
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Board also appointed a Personnel Search Committee that will be responsible for the process of naming a permanent superintendent. All seven Board members are part of that committee.
As the first step, a consulting firm will be hired to assist the Board of Education in that search.
