A West Hartford infant died Saturday, and police said Sunday that the child’s father has been arrested and charged in the baby’s death.

Grant McAuslan, 34, of West Hartford is currently in custody and being held on $1.25 million surety bond after he was arrested by warrant. He has been charged with first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor.

According to Capt. Eric Rocheleau, police responded to a call Friday night at 11:21 p.m. regarding a “medical emergency” at a West Hartford home. They were told that an infant had “sustained injuries from a fall while in the care of a parent.”

The injuries were severe, and the infant was transported via ambulance to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for treatment. Due to the extent of the apparent injuries, the West Hartford Police Department’s Detective Division also launched an investigation, Rocheleau said.

Police were informed Saturday that the infant had died as a result of the sustained injuries, and subsequently arrested McAuslan via warrant.

Police did not release further information regarding either the age or the sex of the infant.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, police said.

  • All you “CT NEWS” networks should be ashamed of yourselves. You’ll neglect real stories and totally ignore any facts in most cases to post any eye catching breaking news. I know this story first hand and know this was a tragic accident. A situation that even without 80 news outlets jumping on him about, would put this family in the darkest point of their existence. Imagine accidentally causing your infants death then having to fight for your freedom over an accident while your wife and child suffer with a broken family? Imagine not being able to greave your infant cause you are now focused on your husband’s life in the balance! GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT is the new American way. And before you scum say you did nothing wrong…think about how these forever posted news stories will effect this family’s future….will you update every news channels original post when he is set free from all charges to hep clear his name?! LOL I think we all know the answer to that. Enjoy knowing that 99% of this country thinks their local news is 99% tragic seedy exploitation news and 1% parade coverage.
