Dr. Jeffrey Hines, a West Hartford veteran joins other Black veterans from across Connecticut who share their stories in a documentary film that will have a premiere screening, accompanied by a reception and panel discussion, at the Wadsworth Atheneum on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023.
“Voice of Veterans: Buffalo Soldiers and Beyond,” according to a description of the program, “captures the voices of Connecticut veterans re-counting their experiences as Black Americans in the military, the sacrifice of leaving their families and the pride in service to their country.” Hines and other Black veterans who appear in the documentary speak about proud moments and things they will never forget about their service during the guided interviews.
The legacy of Buffalo soldiers is highlighted in the film, and the collection of military items from the Amistad Center for Art & Culture’s collection are also examined in the documentary.
The program, which is free of charge, will begin at 2 p.m. with a reception in the Loctite Lobby, followed by the screening at 3 p.m.
