West Hartford Police said Friday that the driver of a vehicle involved in a collision with a moped on Thursday night near the intersection of Flatbush and New Park avenues has been arrested and faces multiple charges.

According to Assistant Chief Larry Terra, Fabrizzo Andres Gutierrez Medina, 24, of Hartford, has been charged with driving under the influence and failure to yield right of way in connection with the crash, and also faces a charge of carrying weapons in a motor vehicle.

Medina was held on $200,000 bond and arraigned Friday at GA14.

The crash was reported just before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, and police said the operator of the moped sustained injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to an area hospital. Police said Thursday night that the extent of the injuries to the victim were “unknown,” but said Friday that there were “no serious or life-threatening injuries sustained by anyone involved in this accident.”

The intersection was closed for more than four hours for investigation by the West Hartford Police Accident Reconstruction Team and reopened at approximately 2 a.m., police said.

The investigation of this incident remains active and anyone with information is asked to please contact West Hartford Police at 860-523-5203, or via the anonymous tip line 860-570-8969 or email [email protected].
