On Oct. 31, 2014, Crossing Guard Antoinette “Toni” Beaupre was recognized for her 30 years of service to the Town of West Hartford. Toni is assigned to the intersection of Fern St at North Quaker Lane.

Also on this day Crossing Guard Carole Jane “CJ” Barrett was also recognized for her 28 years of service. CJ is assigned to the intersection of Mayflower St and Vine Hill Rd.

Both Toni and CJ started work as crossing guards at what they thought would be a fun part-time job. Thirty or so years later their part time job has evolved to a passion and beloved occupation that is respected by all children and parents who pass by their posts.

Toni was presented with a 30 year service pin and a beautiful clock designed and created by fellow crossing guard, Janet O’Connor.

The job of a crossing guard is a challenging and worthwhile occupation. The service they provide helps to ensure our school children walk to school safely while crossing our busy roads. From a beautiful sunny day to a day with snow and freezing rain, the crossing guards are always at their posts (on school days of course).

By honoring Toni and CJ today we also honor all crossing guards for their service.
