West Hartford Police have continued to investigate an incident that occurred last Thursday night resulting in serious injuries to a Hall High School student, and are seeking the public’s assistance in their search for a vehicle and driver believed to have struck the teen and fled the scene.
On Thursday, Oct. 22, Capt. Aaron Vafiades said the victim, a 17-year-old male, has been released from the hospital.
Police had been dispatched to the scene on Oct.15 at 9:10 p.m. after receiving a report of an injured pedestrian in the area of North Main Street and Proctor Drive, and Vafiades said Thursday that the investigation has revealed the pedestrian appears to have been struck earlier in the evening, likely between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The incident appeared to have occurred on the northbound side of North Main Street, and according to Vafiades the evading vehicle is likely a 2011-2019 Ford Explorer. The vehicle likely has damage to the passenger side mirror and windshield trim, he said.
The West Hartford Police Accident Reconstruction Team, which is continuing the investigation, requests that anyone with video footage or dash camera footage of the area between 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m., or any other information, please contact them at 860-523-5203 or via the anonymous tip line 860-570-8969 or email [email protected].
“The West Hartford Police Department would like to thank the West Hartford Public Safety Dispatchers, as well as the West Hartford Fire Department and AMR for their efforts on scene,” Vafiades added.
West Hartford Public Schools also provided counseling and clinical teams throughout the district, along with community partners at The Bridge, to assist following the incident.
“Above all, our thoughts and heartfelt concern remain with this student and their family,” Superintendent Paul Vicinus wrote in a letter to families last week. “As a school community, we will continue to surround them with care, compassion, and support during this difficult time.”
