Several members of the West Hartford Republican Town Committee (RTC) showed support for the American Legion and Scouts on Saturday by participating in an annual event honoring veterans for Memorial Day.

Over 20 RTC members, family, and friends of the RTC assisted the American Legion, Scouts ,and fellow neighbors by planting American flags on veteran’s graves at Fairview Cemetery.

“Years ago, the former Republican Town Council Minority Leader, Denise Bernard Hall, started the tradition for the RTC to participate in this event,” said Shawn Daly, the current West Hartford RTC Chairman. “With our new leadership and an invigorated and energized spirit, our RTC wanted to renew support of this important Memorial Day event.”

“The West Hartford RTC is all about supporting every West Hartford resident and organization” said RTC member Ted Mancini. “It is a privilege to honor our veterans who fought bravely for our liberties with the small but significant act of placing American flags at the gravestones of our military veterans, here in the cemetery.”

A veteran, former member of the Connecticut Army National Guard, and former West Hartford Republican Town Council candidate Alberto Cortes talked about the importance of the event.  “As a veteran, I see the sacrifices made by our military every day. It is important that we continue to recognize and honor the memory of our veterans and their service to our country. I was proud to participate in this event with the West Hartford RTC.”
