West Hartford has developed a stellar reputation as a dining destination, and the town’s diverse array of culinary offerings will be available at a discounted price during the inaugural West Hartford Restaurant Week, which will be held from Tuesday, Aug. 28 through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, 2018.

“West Hartford Restaurant Week aims to cultivate and promote the diverse culinary experiences the town has to offer. Guests can enjoy Restaurant Week dining for lunch and dinner, with different restaurants participating in each,” states the event website.

Not only will Restaurant Week offer incentives for diners to sample some great food, but it will also be an opportunity to give back, with 5 percent of menu sales being donated to Foodshare, a local nonprofit that serves the hungry and food insecure in Hartford and Tolland counties.

The list of restaurants is still being finalized, Chamber Executive Director Barbara Lerner said Monday, but there are already about a dozen eateries that have signed on and she expects at least 20 to participate in this inaugural year. Restaurant names and menus will be released shortly.

The chosen week is during a time when restaurant business is typically slow, with many residents vacationing through the very end of the summer or heading out of town for Labor Day weekend.

Lerner, who is coordinating Restaurant Week along with Chamber Associate Director Morgan Hilyard, Liz Kiyak of Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, and Carrie Titolo of Foodshare, said that participating restaurants will be offering a special prix-fixe menu for $20, $30, or $40. Some will also offer lunch specials for $12 during Restaurant Week.

Restaurants are being asked to create menus that “reflect the culinary perspective of the restaurant while providing value to the customer.”

The West Hartford Restaurant Week website is still under development. For updated information, follow West Hartford Restaurant Week on Facebook, and Instagram (@whrestaurantweek).
