West Hartford Student To Hold Second Annual ‘Cars Against Colon Cancer’

Kingswood Oxford Senior Benjamin Lerman Coady is holding a car show on May 13 as a fundraiser for colon cancer prevention.

Benjamin Lerman Coady’s grandmother is battling colon cancer, currently on her second round of chemotherapy, and the Kingswood Oxford senior from West Hartford has witnessed her battle firsthand and is hoping to do what he can to raise awareness of the disease.

“I decided to combine my love of cars and my desire to help raise awareness for colon cancer prevention,” Coady said, and on Saturday, May 13, from 9 a.m. until noon, he will host his second “Cars Against Colon Cancer” car show.

The show will be held in the Kingswood Oxford Trout Brook Drive parking lot, and the rain date is set for Saturday, May 20.

According to Coady, luxury car dealers New Country Mercedes Benz of Hartford and Miller Motorcars of Greenwich, as well as many private cars owners, have signed on to participate.

“The cars range from American muscle to Modern European exotics,” Coady said. He expects between 30 and 40 cars to be displayed.

Coady said he had a tough time convincing KO to host the show last year, and he said the process of drafting waivers for all the car owners to sign absolving the school of liability was a cumbersome process.

He said that only a handful of faculty members though the could pull it off.

“On top of that it poured the day of the show. However, 20 cars did attend along with about 100 people,” Coady said. He raised $3,500.

There is no cost for attendance and the show raises money by donation only. “I don’t want the price of admission to inhibit anyone from seeing the cars,” he said.

Coady is pleased with the pace of donations already this year.
