How often has “kale” been the most popular dish at a gathering? Probably never! But that was before India Restaurant’s Crispy Baby Kale salad with tomatoes, tamarind, mint and green chili chutney was discovered. By far this gluten-free and vegan dish was the hit of the picnic when we had the opportunity to try take out from this Blue Back Square establishment, just in time for West Hartford’s Latanya Farrell’s concert in Elizabeth Park.

Manager AJ thoughtfully packed our food-to-go and explained that the chutney, with optional chopped onion, was to be added to the tasty baby kale right before consuming it.

The rest of the menu was just as flavorful and complimentary and included: Vegetable Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala made with larger than expected chunks of chicken; Saag Paneer which had a delicate garlic flavor was more tasty than is typical; and Garlic Naan was baked to perfection.

India is located at 54 Memorial Rd., open 7 days a week including Happier Hour 7 days a week from 5-7 p.m. Follow them on Instagram and Facebook.
