Earlier this month the Knights of Columbus West Hartford Youth Baseball (WHYBL) team, affectionately known as K of C, had the pleasure of sharing their Major Division Championship win with the Knights of Columbus Council members.
The Knights of Columbus are the longest running sponsor of WHYBL, dating back to their charter year, 1953, which was only four years after the West Hartford Youth Baseball League was initiated. The 2024 season marked the league’s 75th anniversary and there is no better way to celebrate the milestone than with a win by the longest running sponsored K of C team.
Players and coaches had the honor of presenting the Town Championship trophy and a team plaque to Council members.
Over the years, K of C has won 16 League Championships. The team’s first manager was a WHYBL legend – Ken Hungerford –who served the U.S. in the Korean War and coached K of C for 50 years. He also was a part of the Knights of Columbus Council #3600 here in West Hartford for 46 years. Ken passed away last year at the age of 94.
