The primary will be held Aug. 11, 2026, and early voting begins on Aug. 3 at West Hartford Town Hall for those eligible to vote.

In West Hartford, the Democratic Primary will be held Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. All polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is no Republican Primary.

• All registered Democratic voters in West Hartford are eligible to vote at their polling place on Election Day or during Early Voting at Town Hall.
• Voters who are registered members of the Republican Party or any of the minor parties are not eligible to vote in the Democratic Primary.
• Voters who are registered unaffiliated voters can affiliate with the Democratic Party up until noon on Aug. 10.

Voter Registration

The last day to register to vote or change party affiliation, from unaffiliated to Democratic, online, via DMV, or by mail (postmarked) was July 24.

Voters who have moved within town, but have not yet updated their voter registration, can update their voter registration and vote at their new polling place or at early voting. The voting districts map and list of polling places is available on the town website. (WestHartfordCT.gov/Vote).

There is no Same Day Registration for primaries.

Early Voting

Connecticut allows residents to vote in person before the primary. Early voting will be available from Aug. 3 to Aug. 9 at one location: the Town Hall Auditorium, 50 South Main Street. Please use the main entrance of the Town Hall. Parking is free for voters. Signage will designate the curbside voting parking.

When you arrive, you will check in and be verified as an eligible voter. You will complete your ballot at a privacy booth. Before you leave, you will place your ballot in the tabulator as instructed by the election officials in the same manner as in a polling place. Results from Early Voting will remain unknown until after 8 p.m. on Primary Day.

Primary Day

On Primary Day, Aug. 11, voters should go to their regular polling location. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. To check your voter registration and polling location, visit the Secretary of the State’s look-up or call the West Hartford Registrars of Voters at 860-561-7450.

Absentee Voting

Connecticut law allows voters to choose to apply for an absentee ballot. This year the Connecticut General Assembly changed the absentee ballot eligibility requirements to allow for “no-excuse absentee voting,” voters can now vote absentee without giving an approved reason.

To request an absentee ballot for the Aug. 11 Primary:

• First, obtain an absentee ballot application online, in person, or by mail. A Connecticut-issued DMV ID is required for online applications. Then, return the completed application to the Town Clerk’s Office (Room 313, Town Hall). The voter will then receive an absentee ballot, which became available on Tuesday, July 21.
• Next, cast your vote using the absentee ballot. Instructions are included on how to sign and seal your ballot.
• Lastly, return the ballot to the Town Clerk’s Office by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, by USPS mail, in person, or deposit it into the secure drop boxes located at Town Hall and the Faxon Branch Library, 1073 New Britain Ave.

Results

At each polling place and central counting the tabulator tape report will be posted for the public. The unofficial results for the town will be posted on the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s Election Night Reporting website. Primary results will be certified after a meeting with the Town Clerk, Head Moderator, and Registrars of Voters.

Public Act 26-42 established a new 250-foot zone around polling places, early voting locations, and absentee ballot drop boxes in which law enforcement officers are prohibited from checking voter qualifications, loitering, or knowingly being within the 250-foot perimeter, with certain exceptions. All persons are prohibited from wearing a mask within the 250-foot perimeter, except for reasons related to religion, medical necessity, or weather.
