WHYBL Hosting CT Cal Ripken 11U Baseball Tournament

The CT Cal Ripken 11U Baseball Tournament will be hosted by West Hartford Youth Baseball and will be held at Wolcott Park.

Jackson Burns pitched a two-hit shutout while James Jorgensen and Zach Potters each contributed two RBI as the West Hartford Youth Baseball League (WHYBL) 11U Travel Team defeated Norwalk Green Mariners 4-0 on Sunday, June 21.

The victory qualified the team for the CT Cal Ripken 11U State Tournament to be held from Saturday, June 27 through Thursday, July 2 at Wolcott Park in West Hartford.

The double elimination field includes Bethel. Danbury. Easton/Redding, New Canaan, New Fairfield, Newtown Blue, and Norwalk Blue. Four games will be on tap Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. each day.

Games continue each day until an 11U Cal Ripken State Champion is crowned. The CT State Champion moves on to the Cal Ripken Regional Tournament in Bethel with a chance to qualify for the 11U Cal Ripken World Series in Crown Point, Indiana, in August.

WHYBL will open with the defending state champions from Newtown at 3 p.m.on Saturday, June 27.

Team members include Jackson Burns, Grant Ferry, Ryan Hill, James Jorgensen, Richard Kempf, Rudolf Kempf, Everett Labinski, Alec Masucci, Zach Potters, Peter Siew, Cameron Silva, Brayden Tyler, and Roman Zamora.  The coaching staff consists of Manager Scott Reynolds, Rob Gallo, Rob Kuzmins, and Jim Zirolli.

The West Hartford Youth Baseball League has provided memorable experiences for baseball players aged 4-12 since 1949.  WHYBL supports competitive summer travel baseball teams at the 8U-12U level.  The 8U WHYBL team will compete in the Beth-Wood machine pitch tournament. The WHYBL 9U team has qualified for the Ripken State Tournament being held in Bethel while the 10U team is one victory away from advancing to the tournament in Newtown.

The WHYBL 12U team is hosting the 12U District Tournament and stands poised to join the limited field in New Canaan when the 12U State Tournament begins on July 3 before heading to Cooperstown Dreams Park in late July for a week-long experience.
