West Hartford Democrats will have the opportunity to choose between four candidates in the 1st Congressional District – endorsed candidate and former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, incumbent U.S. Rep. John Larson, state Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, and Ruth Fortune.

With the deadline for collecting petition signatures to force a party primary having past, the Secretary of the State’s Office has issued a notice of primaries for 18 races ranging from governor to probate judge.

The political parties selected their candidates through a statewide series of conventions in May. Candidates could qualify for a primary election either by garnering 15% of the votes at the convention for their particular race or by collecting petition signatures based on the number of eligible voters for that campaign.
