10 West Hartford Student Artists Featured in Exhibit at the Mandell JCC

The Mandell Jewish Community Center of Greater Hartford presents ‘Watkinson School Student Art Exhibit.’

The Mandell Jewish Community Center of Greater Hartford is pleased to present the “Watkinson School Student Art Exhibit” on display and open to the public in the Chase Gallery from Jan. 22 – Feb. 22

The exhibit was curated by Watkinson School art teachers Carolyn Pelkey (of Windsor) for sculpture and photography and Maryhills Powell (of West Hartford) for paintings and prints.

Pelkey, who is the director of Watkinson School’s visual arts department, commented, “We chose work that represented some of the best work from 2016-17. We looked for the creative use of technical skills in the medium their respective medium.” Eighteen current Watkinson students and three alumni have 40 pieces of art in the show.

Watkinson School, a co-educational day school for grades 6-PG, was founded in 1881 and is Hartford’s oldest independent school. Watkinson’s next open house for prospective students is February 17 at 9 a.m.
