The 8th grade West Hartford Magic captured the Championship of the Nutmeg State Games Holiday Tournament at Wesleyan University.

The girls defeated East Haven 41-25, before taking a 37-34 loss to St. Mark’s – Stratford. The loss to St. Mark’s was the first loss to age-appropriate competition the girls have suffered in the last four years.

Based on a points system, the girls moved on to the semi-final round where they defeated fellow Connecticut Girls Basketball League (CGBL) member member Berlin, 28-7.

In the final, the Magic faced off against Newington, another CGBL member, and came out with the win, 35-20.

Carys Baker was named Tournament MVP.
