September promises to be an exciting month for Playhouse on Park with the continuation of the adult education program. Adult Advanced Improv class begins on Monday, Sept. 21.

Under the instruction of Claire Zick, Advanced Improv aims to hone the skills of the more experienced improviser through exploring narrative. Participants can expect to address both their strengths and areas that need improvement over the course of nine weeks. The focus will be on long-form improv, including the Harold structure made popular by Chicago’s iO Theater and the Upright Citizens Brigade.

Claire Zick moved to West Hartford from Seattle where she was an ensemble member at Unexpected Productions, Seattle’s first and most reputable improv theater company. She was also the Assistant Artistic Director and only female member of Sisters of Sal, a long-form improvisational comedy troupe that won Seattle CageMatch and performed with Ryan Stiles. She has studied improv at Unexpected Productions, Magnet Theater, and UCB Theatre. Her instructors have included Randy Dixon, Matt Smith, Jill Farris, Armando Diaz, Christian Capozzoli, Keith Johnstone and Mick Napier.

Prerequisites include Intermediate Improvisation, as students will be expected to sustain a more complex narrative using skills learned in previous classes, or otherwise permitted by instructor.

Adult Advanced Improv will accommodate up to 12 students, ages 18 and older. Each class meets at the Playhouse on Mondays from 7 – 10 p.m. Adult Advanced Improv runs from Sept. 21 until Nov. 9, with a culminating class performance on Nov. 10. The fee is $200.
