How did a small Jewish group in Brooklyn become an international Jewish powerhouse? It’s the central question examined in an acclaimed new book, The Secret of Chabad, a finalist in the National Jewish Book Awards, and authored by Rabbi David Eliezrie.

Why are 4,000 Chabad couples willing to move to Katmandu, Bahia Blanca, or Franklin Lakes for a lifetime of Jewish community service?

What is the philosophy which fuels its innovational and entrepreneurial model, responsible for its exponential growth and encompassing over 3,000 educational religious and cultural centers worldwide?

These questions and many others will be examined by Rabbi David Eliezrie, the book’s author on Thursday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Chabad House in West Hartford. Rabbi Shaya Gopin, director of education at Chabad, noted that “this is a rare opportunity to get an insider’s view on the emergence of Chabad as a pacesetter in Jewish life.”

The Secret of Chabad has received glowing reviews from many Jewish leaders and personalities including talk-show host Dennis Prager, Senator Joseph Lieberman, and Rabbi Joseph Telushkin.

Attorney Alan Dershowitz wrote: “I have often urged the Harvard Business School to teach the remarkable success of the Chabad movement as a case study in innovation, commitment, and determination. The Secret of Chabad is that case study written by a brilliant insider who really understands…”
