There were no injuries resulting from a Sunday morning fire at a restaurant at 345 North Main Street in Bishops Corner, but two businesses will remain closed for restoration and clean-up, West Hartford Fire Department Deputy Chief Russell Duffy said.

According to Duffy, smoke inside Blue Plate Kitchen was reported at approximately 8:18 a.m. on Sunday, July 12.

Crews from Ladder 4 arrived first, and found smoke throughout the restaurant, and located a small fire in a storage closet. The sprinkler system had activated and successfully extinguished the majority of the blaze, Duffy said. Firefighters quickly took care of the remaining fire.

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians, Duffy said.

Blue Plate Kitchen will remain closed for clean-up and restoration following fire, smoke, and water damage. Float 41, which is directly below Blue Plate Kitchen, was also affected and will be temporarily closed, Duffy said.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.

The West Hartford Police Department, West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, and the West Hartford Building Department also responded to the scene, Duffy said, and the fire department appreciated the mutual aid provided by UConn Health Center Fire Department, which provided station coverage during the incident.

“The West Hartford Fire Department reminds businesses and property owners that properly maintained automatic sprinkler systems play a critical role in controlling fires, limiting property damage, and protecting occupants until firefighters arrive,” Duffy said.
