Traffic was detoured around the intersection of Park Road and South Highland Street in West Hartford early Friday morning while police investigated a suspicious item left on the sidewalk.

West Hartford Police said that units were dispatched at 6:05 a.m. Friday on the report of a suspicious item at the corner of Park Road and South Highland Street. Police discovered a safe –a Sentry lock box – which based on its position “appeared someone had set it down and walked away from it.”

Police said that based on the “unusual location and condition of the box,” the Hartford Bomb Squad was called in to investigate.

West Hartford Police Sgt. Brett Balisciano said that the road was closed for an hour or two while the investigation continued, and Hartford Bomb Squad determined that the contents of the lock box was medication.

The owner of the medication was determined and contacted by police. The owner “accidentally left the box on the sidewalk,” Balisciano said.

The road was reopened and police said that there will not be any further investigation or charges filed in this incident.
